FYS 1121 CENSORSHIP & FREEDOM
This course explores the topics of academic censorship and intellectual freedom. Current federal policies restrict words on federal websites and in federally funded research grants. Additionally, books are increasingly being banned in libraries across the United States. This form of censorship matters in the real world because it creates disparate outcomes for various groups of people, disproportionately harming people of different genders, sexualities, races, ethnicities, and more. Attacks on intellectual freedom will be discussed in terms of the impact both in and beyond the classroom.
