FYS 1120 BANNED BOOKS

This course explores the global phenomenon of book banning and the social power of the written word. By analyzing controversial literature and case studies from around the world, including China, Ireland, Germany, and the US, students will investigate why specific texts have been deemed "dangerous" and the mechanisms used to silence them. Through focused inquiry and research, students will develop essential humanities skills in critical analysis, historical contextualization, and written and oral communication, while also learning how to use those those skills in the Gen AI era.
