Statistics and Data Science Minor
The interdisciplinary minor in Statistics and Data Science is designed to help students develop a broad understanding of statistical methods for organizing, visualizing, analyzing, and interpreting data. Students will learn the fundamental principles of statistics; wrangle complex data to construct informative data visualizations; build and validate statistical models; and study concrete applications of statistics to a variety of fields.
Requirements
Introductory Statistics Course
Students must complete one of the following courses:
With permission of the department, students may substitute any statistics course at the 200 level or higher.

An approved individual study involving a substantial statistical component may serve in place of one of these courses.
Advanced Placement credit may not be counted toward the minor. Students considering graduate study in statistics or in quantitative areas of other fields are encouraged to take courses in statistics and mathematics beyond the requirements for the minor, particularly STA 315, STA 334, STA 336, MAT 212, MAT 226, and MAT 301.
