Finance Minor
The interdisciplinary minor in finance is available to students wishing to develop a broad understanding of financial principles and topics related to the financial sector. Through this minor, students will come to understand the fundamental principles of finance and learn many techniques for financial assets valuation, investment project assessment, and risk analysis.
Coursework
The minor consists of seven courses.
Students must take six of the following courses:
In addition, students must complete one of the following electives:
Additional courses, including appropriate individual studies, may be counted toward the minor with approval of the adviser. Since only one course may be counted toward both a major and a minor, students completing this minor may need to take additional courses if they also wish to major in economics. Students majoring in economics may not count ECO 230 toward the minor.
Students who minor in Finance and major in Quantitative Economics and Econometrics already have to take MAT 112 (Calc B) for their major. These students can take one of the following courses as a substitute for MAT 112 for the Finance Minor: COM 110; PHI 103; PHI 129; PHI 222; any MAT course above 112. Course exemption forms will have to be used to make this substitution.
