Musical Activities
The Music Department offers musical activities to meet a range of backgrounds and interests. Ensembles include Connecticut College Singers, Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, Musical Theater Ensemble, and chamber ensembles for various instrumental groups. Membership in these ensembles is by permission of the instructor; consultations are held at the beginning of each semester. Students register for ensembles, which constitute one academic credit hour. In addition, private lessons are available for one or two credit hours in voice, all orchestral and band instruments, piano, harpsichord, organ, guitar, percussion/drum set, harp, jazz piano, and jazz saxophone. Recitals, workshops, and guest lectures are given by music faculty and guests throughout the year. Students taking lessons have an opportunity to perform in recitals and studio classes each semester. In all, the Music Department sponsors more than 60 events each year.
There are numerous student clubs that focus on music performance, including a cappella groups and MOBROC (Musicians Organized for Band Rights on Campus).
