ITL 217 CONTEMPORARY LITERATURE & FILM
Study of debates on canon formation in contemporary Italian literature and film and introduction to selected trends in their cultural and historical context critiquing totalitarian ideologies and discriminatory practices, with an emphasis on questions of identity, gender, race and aesthetics. Writers and film directors may include Pier Vittorio Tondelli, Dacia Maraini, Italo Calvino, Primo Levi, Salah Methnani, Jhumpa Lahiri, Laila Wadia and Ferzan Ozpetek.

Mainly conducted in Italian. Usually offered every three years. Students may not receive credit for this course and for ITL 317.
