ITL 317 CONTEMP ITALIAN LIT & FILM
Study of debates on canon formation in contemporary Italian literature and film and introduction to selected trends in their cultural and historical context, with an emphasis on questions of identity, gender, race, ethnicity and aesthetics. Writers and film directors may include Pier Vittorio Tondelli, Dacia Maraini, Italo Calvino, Primo Levi, Salah Methnani, Jhumpa Lahiri, Laila Wadia and Ferzan Ozpetek. Conducted in Italian.
Prerequisite
ITL 202, or permission of the instructor. Either
ITL 250,
ITL 260 or
ITL 220 is recommended for students who have not completed their junior year/semester in Italy.
