Major in Music Studies
The flexible nature of the major in Music Studies gives students the ability to personalize their course of study as they undertake a balanced approach to the varied disciplines of music, including performance, ethnomusicology, cultural studies, histories of music, theories of music, technology, and composition. Students work with advisers to create a coherent and meaningful major that is designed to build their skills as musicians while they pursue their individual interests.
Requirements
The major in Music Studies consists of ten 4-credit courses (or 4-credit equivalencies) plus a 1-credit senior colloquium. Students are expected to complete a culminating experience that reflects their particular musical focus, whether within the music department or as a music-related Center or Pathway project. The project must be approved by the department before the beginning of the senior year.

Four semesters of lessons (MUS 115 or 215) may count as the equivalent of one Making Music course
