ITL 308 MODERNISMS AND AVANT-GARDES

Study of some key modernist and avant-garde literary texts, films, and works of art created in Italy and other world locations from the late 19th-century to the mid 20th-century, in response to major historical events (e.g. World War I), sociopolitical changes (e.g. women's suffrage), and scientific innovations (e.g. psychoanalysis and relativity theory).

Conducted in English. Course is taught on multiple levels at the same time, and may not be taken on more than one level. Students in the 300-level course are expected to analyze additional secondary readings and write a longer research paper than those enrolled in the 200-level course. Students may not receive credit for this course and for either ITL 206 or ITL 306.
