HIS 480 INFERIOR: RACE AND SEX SCIENCE

The belief in biological race is now characterized as pseudoscience. Yet there was a time when the idea of biologically-rooted racial inferiority was seen as legitimate science—and was used to justify enslavement, segregation, and unspeakable horrors against people of color. This course examines the US history of these ideas in relation to the scientific study of sex, sexuality, and gender.
