HIS 257 US LATINX/E HISTORY

The 2020 Census estimates that more than 60 million Hispanics (Latinxs) live in the United States. This seminar examines the origins, histories, and the cultural, social, and political struggles of U.S.-based Latinxs. What are the differences between the terms, “Latina/o,” or “Hispanic,” and what histories have they endured throughout the U.S.’s past? This course will explore Latinx/es of Latin American descent from 1500s to today.
