HIS 288 ANCIENT EGYPT & ITS NEIGHBORS

This course investigates the politics of identity in ancient Egypt from the 4th to 1st millennia BCE. One of the world’s earliest states, Egypt drew boundaries between “us” and “them,” crafting an imagined community often reinforced through diplomacy, ritual, and violence. Topics include state ideology; cross-cultural exchange and entanglement; and racialized receptions in modern scholarship.
