HIS 117 CC: EMPIRES

Empires have long shaped world history, eventually fragmenting into nation-states that some might argue more accurately characterizes the modern world. But is this true, or do imperial relations of power continue into our present? This course provides students with the opportunities to study the emergence, formation, challenges, and disintegrations of imperial regimes of power throughout time. We will take a long view of the past to explore the histories of processes of connection and fragmentation that have shaped the contemporary human experience.
