FLM 395M CINEMA AND THE MODERN CITY
This course brings into dialogue theories of cinema and the city, integrating recent scholarship on film and literature. Students will examine issues of colonialism, class, gender formations, sexuality, race, and memory as they critically engage with modern “city films” from around the world, such as: Berlin, New York, Paris, Los Angeles, Shanghai, Cairo, Istanbul, and Tehran.
Prerequisite
FLM 101 or permission of the instructor.
