ENG 304 RACE & RELIGION IN RENAISSANCE

This course explores shifting conceptions of group and individual identity in Renaissance plays as they relate to equally unstable ideas about race and religion. The course examines connections between these cultural constructs and gender, nationality, color and racialized language, and ideas of inheritance and blood. Authors may include Shakespeare, Marlowe, Jonson, and Elizabeth Carey.
