SPA 225 TEACHING & LEARNING SPANISH

Practical skills for the teaching of Spanish, with techniques for fostering a communicative environment, language in context and community engagement. The course analyzes concepts of Foreign Language pedagogy, applied linguistics, bilingual education, International Baccalaureate, national standards, learning styles and interest-based education. Using OER resources, it provides assessment-based and student-designed creative activities, virtual and

in-person teaching observations, and teaching observations in local schools, and favors functional literacy over mastery.

This course may be taken at the 200, 300, or 400 level as requirements will vary depending on the level chosen. State Certification reflects work done on the 300 or 400 level. This course cannot be taken on more than one level.

Prerequisite

SPA 201, SPA 221 or permission of the Instructor
