PHI 243 AMERICAN ZION AND ANTI-ZION

Zionism is one of the most influential and controversial ideas of the twentieth century, and the American version of it was a unique blend of old and new ideas. The course examines its competing strands, including the role that Jacob Blaustein (yes, that Blaustein) played in it, particularly once the State of Israel was established. There were also competing strands of American Anti-Zionism, and the course examines how those debates played out throughout the century right up to today.
