ITL 216 CULTURAL IDENTITY IN ITALY

Study of cultural identity in verbal and visual works primarily focused on Risorgimento, the South (e.g. questione meridionale and mafia) and contemporary (trans)national Italy. Analysis directed toward techniques of representation, along with diverse conceptions such as ethnicity, race, gender and class. Authors may include Matilde Serao, Dacia Maraini, Tahar Ben Jelloun and Franco Cassano.

Mainly conducted in Italian. Usually offered every three years. Students may not receive credit for this course and for ITL 316.

Prerequisite

ITL 201 and ITL 202, or permission of the instructor.
