ITL 205 ITALY, TRAVEL & MIGRATION

Introduction to a variety of texts regarding different forms of travel and migration in Italy, from Italy, and toward Italy. While analyzing these texts we will explore the reasons of touristic travel, labor migration, exile and cosmopolitan privilege, along with their implications on cultural translation and the making of identity. Topics may include the Grand Tour, the advantages and disadvantages of mass tourism in Italy, and the new pressures of world migration.

Mainly conducted in Italian. Usually offered every three years. Students may not receive credit for this course and for ITL 305.

Prerequisite

ITL 201 and ITL 202, or permission of the instructor.
