HIS 404 KASHMIR AND PALESTINE
A critical analysis of the complex histories of Kashmir and Palestine, locations of two of the longest protracted conflicts of our time. Major questions include how colonialism and anti-colonial efforts shaped these places, the role and responsibility of nation-states and international organizations, and how religion and secularism contribute to them. The course also explores how the law and extra-legal actions—as well as both violence and peace efforts—are deployed to serve the aims of those involved, and what they reveal about post-colonial violence in the 21st century.
