HIS 274 SECULARISM IN GLOBAL CONTEXTS
Commonly understood as the separation of church and state, secularism raises questions about relationships between religion and the state, public and private life, citizenship, and legitimate political action. This course explores different versions of secularism across the world as well as fears regarding secularism in crisis through an examination of historical case studies in South Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and North America.
