GOV 216 POL PSYCH/PUBLIC OPINION IN US
What do Americans think they know about politics, and how do they arrive at and act upon such beliefs? The first half of this course is built around perspectives from political psychology, exploring the contours of mass opinion in the US and how individual perspectives are influenced by social identities and group membership, from families to political parties. The second half of this course is focused on political communication, interrogating various avenues for the transmission of political information, from the pronouncements of political elites to conventional mass media institutions to contemporary social media platforms.
Prerequisite
GOV 111 or permission of the instructor.
