FRH 461 WOMEN WRITERS, FRENCH FEMINISM

Women Writers and French Feminism.  This seminar examines feminist thought through the lens of French and Francophone women who contributed to its formalization. Students will analyze novels and essays written by prominent female writers – such as Simone de Beauvoir, Hélène Cixous, Assia Djebar, and Monique Wittig – and delineate major debates about the roles of women in society. Students will learn to define feminism and evaluate its impact on contemporary issues of gender, sexuality, and class.
