FRH 328 INTRODUCTION À LA FRANCOPHONIE
This course introduces students to the French-speaking world beyond France. La Francophonie is the result of the second largest colonial empire spanning five continents, and is currently centered on the main geographical areas of North Africa, West Africa, the Caribbean, Québec, and the Middle East. Topics may include slavery, colonization and Empire, decolonization and post-colonial theory, gender, human rights, immigration, religion and laïcité, LGBTQ+ rights, the current political situation, and the ongoing relationship of France to its former colonies. Taught in French.
Prerequisite
FRH 301, a qualifying score on the department's placement exam, or permission of the department.
