ART 237 FIGURE DRAWING TODAY
This course tackles the formal challenges of figure drawing and engages with the critical questions surrounding the historical and contemporary practice of working from the human figure. Students will be exposed to different techniques and strategies for rendering the human form when working from live models--sometimes nude--and static source imagery, as well as varying traditions, such as studying human anatomy, for approaching this practice. Discussions will consider the implicit power dynamics between subject and artist/student, as well as the politics of representation in historical and contemporary cultures.
