SPA 430 AFR DIAS & LIT IMAG IN LAT AM
Exploration of the crucial role played by the African diaspora in the formation and transformation of Latin American human cultures. The course examines the historical experiences of people of African ancestry from such countries as Colombia, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Peru, Nicaragua, and Panama and their representation in literature and the arts. The range of topics includes interactions between macro-level structures and human will and action, post-colonial legal systems, transnational dimensions of knowledge produced in the Latin American region, and comparative analysis with Latino histories in the U.S.
