FRH 429 REVOLT IN/AGAINST FRANCE

From the storming of the Bastille in 1789, to the student protests of May 1968, to the “gilet jaune” protests of recent years, France has a storied history of revolt, protest, and critique. This course explores the intellectual history of protest in French philosophy, literature, and political thought. Students will explore the many senses of revolt, protest, and critique in and against French tradition and empire, and its implications for literature, art, and politics. (In French)
