FLM 395S SURVEILLANCE & SCREEN CULTURE
This course examines the multiple intersections of surveillance and screen culture, critically interrogating concepts such as realism, mediation, point of view, and visible evidence. Students will explore questions such as: How are our understandings of reality television, documentary filmmaking, and cinematic spectatorship enhanced when we account for the dynamics and techniques of surveillance subtending them? What can attention to screen media’s pleasures and perils offer theorizations of surveillance in return?
