ENG 493Q HENRY JAMES & QUEER AFTERLIVES

HENRY JAMES AND HIS QUEER AFTERLIVES

How does Henry James (1843–1916) live again in the works of writers and film-makers of our time? What is his appeal to the queer, feminist, expatriate, and culturally displaced? This course pairs novels and tales by James with works by James Baldwin, Colm Tóibín, Alan Hollinghurst, Jane Campion, David Leavitt, and others.
