ECO 340 ECONOMIC INEQUALITY IN THE US

This course examines the topic of inequality and poverty in the United States. Starting with the theory of economics of discrimination, students will investigate differences in economic outcomes such as income, wages, and wealth accumulation as well as non-labor market outcomes such as health, education, and access to credit. Students will use data and econometric methods to measure the impact of such differences on welfare. Students will further explore whether such outcomes differ by race and ethnicity, gender, and citizenship status. Finally, students will examine whether certain government policies contributed to widening inequality.
