ART 251 POLITICS OF PAINTING PEOPLE
An exploration of "figurative" paintings, those representing humans and carrying metaphorical meaning beyond what we literally see. Painting projects involve working from live models and other sources. Through painting, discussions, research, and visual analysis, students consider the sociopolitical implications of representation -- along lines of race and ethnicity, gender, sexuality, ability, nationality/immigration status, etc. -- reflecting on the consequences of whose bodies are depicted, why, how, by whom, and for whom.
Enrollment Limit
Enrollment limited to 12 students.
