SOC 410 DISASTERS

An examination of disasters from a sociological perspective, with emphasis on the causes and consequences of disasters in modern social life. The course considers a variety of disaster types, including natural, human driven, and technological. Topics may include the BP oil spill, the September 11 attacks, Hurricane Katrina, heatwaves, and a discussion of what constitutes a "worst case" event.
