SOC 231 DISABILITY AND THE MEDIA
This course examines media representations of disability and disabled people in the media within an intersectional sociological context. It also discusses activism among disabled people in response to stereotypes and underrepresentation of people with disabilities. Case studies are taken from older media such as television, film, and newspapers, as well as new media such as social media and streaming platforms. The goal of this course is to understand how media reproduce invisibility and inequality with respect to people with disabilities.
