PHI 247 PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

What is "education"? What are “teaching” and "learning”? What should the aims of education be?  Can moral values be taught? How do power differences and inequalities shape our teaching and learning? The course will explore topics such as critical thinking; education and religion; student and teacher rights; education versus indoctrination; education and inequality; private versus public education; education and liberal democracy; and the uses of grading and testing.
