FYS 1033 HIP HOP, COMICS, GRAPHIC NOVEL
Indigenous tribes historically defended against their enemies, but Spain’s conquest weaponized religion, race, and gender. Exploring everyday Indigenous resistance in graphic novels, comics, and hip-hop music, the course asks: Whose story is this? How are race, gender, culture, and social class reflected? What do cultural texts reveal in social media? Taught in Spanish and counts toward the major and minor in Hispanic Studies and Latin American and Latino Studies.
