THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS An examination of how "the good life" been imagined in American literature. The course explores issues such as inequality, consumerism, environmental justice, and the pursuit of happiness in American literature from 1630 to 1900. Authors include Franklin, Alger, Melville, Petry, and Rankine.
