ART 106 CC: THE MAKING MAKER
Humans are amazing makers. We have made amazing culture, scientific progress, standards of living, etc. We have also made unintentional consequences, such as global warming, oceans filling with plastic, the sixth extinction, and the Anthropocene. Individually we are makers as well. Sometimes our making is very intentional and conscious, like deciding which classes to take. Other times our making is guided by the external influences, such as marketing and propaganda. In this course we will analyze how external and unconscious influences can limit our creativity and guide us to make decisions that have undesirable, unintended consequences. The central question that you will be working with in this class is how to be a more creative and consciousness maker of your life decisions. This course is a combination of a sculpture studio art class and a discussion-based seminar. Readings and videos will guide our discussions. The process of making sculpture will be utilized to understand our own thinking and decision-making process. Through participating in this class, you will gain more control over your ability to connect to your creativity and life's purpose.
