ANT 204 ARCHAEOLOGICAL INDISPENSABLES

Archaeological anthropology distilled to its essentials for students new to archaeology as well as for those seeking to level-up competencies directly applicable to internships and field schools. Drawing on case studies from near and far, this course reframes methodological and conceptual pillars of archaeology as indispensable to the work of understanding momentous cultural phenomena for their nuance and complexity. Lectures, discussions, readings, and assignments introduce and explore some of the driving questions of twenty-first century archaeological research while applying archaeological methods and concepts in lab assignments.

Notes

Open to all students, regardless of major; no previous coursework in anthropology or archaeology required. At the discretion of the instructor, participants in this course may simultaneously enroll in Anthropology 394 (2 credits); the latter may be used to satisfy a Methods-Intensive Seminar requirement for the major or minor in anthropology.
