SOC 274 LANGUAGE AND SOCIETY
This course examines how language is used by the self and others as an identity marker and a mechanism to assign social position. Students will examine the ways that language intersects with race, gender, class, and place to understand how languages function as markers of identity and hierarchy within U.S. society. The course focuses on non-middle class white English, Black English, and Latinx English.
