LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN: CRITICAL PERSPECTIVES
Readings in colonialism, anti-colonial movements, critical geography, history, literature, philosophy, political economy, and the arts provide theoretical frameworks for non-prescriptive critical analysis, discussion, and interpretation of Latin America and Caribbean societies. The course utilizes films, essays, poetry, short stories, current events, and other narrative forms. Exploration of diverse topics, including knowledge production, African-descended and indigenous peoples’ agency, relations of power, class, rural-urban literacies, and nationalism.

Prerequisite
SPA 251, or permission of the instructor.
