FYS 1011 CHINESE ART COMES TO AMERICA
An examination of the relationship between art and global identity. The course introduces Chinese artists who have traveled, lived, and worked in the United States and whose works have been collected by various prestigious U.S. institutions. The course highlights Connecticut College’s own Chu-Griffis Asian Art Collection and some of the most prominent contemporary Chinese artists such as Ai Weiwei, Xu Bing, Zhang Hongtu, and Zhang Dali, who have been exhibited in the Charles Chu Asian Art Reading Room at the College over the past decade. Students will have opportunities to interact with some of the featured artists. No prior knowledge of Chinese language, culture, or art is required.
