An exploration of the specificities of different platforms such as TikTok, YouTube, and handcrafted websites, as well as how video is installed in those "spaces" and the new genres that have emerged. Students will engage in different artistic approaches to these platforms such as performance, activism, and engaging with the vernacular. Students will learn video creation and editing for the web as well as basic web design for non-programmers and look at themes such as intersectionality, identity building, interventionism, and the internet as a political tool. The class includes examples by artists such as Hennessy Youngman, Ann Hirsch, Chris Burden, Marilyn Minter, Jennifer Chan, Eva and Franco Mattes, the Yes Men, and others.
