FYS 119G CONVERSATIONS ON RACE

This course offers critical perspectives on race and racism in the United States through facilitated dialogue about historical and contemporary issues. Students will explore interdisciplinary theoretical foundations about power and social difference as well as imagine future possibilities for justice and liberation. Dialogue is a particular form of communication that differs from discussion or debate in its intentional focus on creating greater understanding as opposed to finding agreement. This is an intergroup dialogue course, intentionally designed to bring together students from different social identity groups to develop critical dialogic skills through guided practice.
