FYS 119E ALL THAT JAZZ

All That Jazz: Creating, Promoting and Writing about a Musical Event This is a project-based course in which students will collectively create, promote, and ultimately produce a public jazz event on campus.  No prior musical background is necessary for this course.  Students who have a prior history with jazz instruments will make up the performing ensemble, but all of the class will learn about the history of jazz, the nuts and bolts of concert promotion and marketing, and the staging of the event.  Students will have an opportunity to learn about many professional pathways in the music industry.  Writing and reflection about music and its role in society will also be a key component of the course.
