FYS 109X DREAMS, DESIRE, AND MADNESS
People often repress their desires, but this does not make them disappear; instead, they make themselves felt through expressions of the unconscious in our dreams, fantasies, slips of the tongue as well as in bodily symptoms. Students will read about dreams as a gateway to the unconscious and to a better understanding of desires, and will analyze fiction and films that represent the ways that repressed desires express themselves. Students will connect their personal lives (experience, dreams, and affect) with the materials they are reading and watching.
