FYS 109R IMAGES, LIES, AND LENSES
The depiction of ever-more realistic and ever-more powerful images is a story of collaboration between art and science that continues today through multiple cultures. This interdisciplinary course will examine the development of image-making through scientific and artistic means while tracing the global exchange of that knowledge. Projects incorporating camera obscura, camera lucida, the concave mirror, and the light box will be explored. No prior art-making experience is required.
Notes
This course will require students to purchase a few materials for the construction of camera obscura and to purchase an iPhone app for $5, as well as a drawing pad, pencils, erasers, etc. A kit will be put together and ordered in bulk to save money. Total cost will be under $50.
