FYS 118E U.S. POLITICS & POWER IN 2018

Why do U.S. politics now appear so unpredictable and unstable?  To answer this question, students will participate in the 2018 elections, compare the president’s campaign promises and Oval Office decisions, simulate judicial confirmation hearings, and debate domestic and foreign policies.  Studies will be conducted in the field as well as the classroom, and students will prepare a diverse portfolio of writings.  Throughout the semester, students will explore whether the eighteenth-century U.S. Constitution is effectively managing twenty-first century political conflicts. If not, students will consider what changes should be made to improve the performance of the U.S. political system.
