ART 200A ANALOG PHOTOGRAPHY
An introductory photography course teaching a broad range of traditional darkroom techniques. The course emphasizes the fundamentals of using a single reflex camera (SLR) including manual exposure and lighting, while exploring the technical, historical, and theoretical underpinnings of traditional silver-based photography. Assignments, lectures, and readings will consider different components of the photograph: Image as Object, Image as Optics, Image as Document, Image as Style, and Image as Narrative. Through the exploration of the construction and manipulation of photographic form and meaning, the course is designed to hone students' ability to see, think, and create with a critical mind and eye.
