MUS 206 TONAL THEORY I
Introduction to the harmonic practices of the 18th and 19th centuries. Emphasis on writing skills, including figured-bass exercises and melodic harmonization, as well as on the analysis of representative works and the development of aural skills.
Notes
Two lectures and two ear-training sessions per week. Tonal Theory I is normally taken by prospective majors in the second semester of the first year students and Tonal Theory II in the first semester of the sophomore year.
Prerequisite
MUS 130 or
MUS 131 or a qualifying score on a placement examination.
Enrollment Limit
Enrollment limited to 18 students.
