ENG 338 PLAYING THE DEVIL'S ADVOCATE
An exploration of medieval and early modern dramatic works starring the Devil and other diabolical characters. Students will consider scenes of temptation, the nature of evil, the bounds of human freedom, and historical changes in the production and performance of dramatic texts. Readings include Mankind and plays by Marlowe, Shakespeare, Elizabeth Cary, and Ben Jonson.
Prerequisite
Open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors. For sophomores, ENG 250 is strongly recommended.
